Ezra is a uni-sex name, used for both men and women. However, Ezra is more commonly used for boys with only a minority of, Ezras being girls. Of the 8,396 babies with this name born last year, 95% were male and 5% were female.
What does this look like in practice? In a group of 20 Ezras, only 1 will be a girl.
Methodology
This one was pretty simple. To determine the breakdown of unisex names, we used the most recent year of baby name data from the Social Security Administration.
From there, we found the total number of occurrences and then the percentage of male and female usage.
Should I use the name Ezra even though it’s unisex?
35% of new babies were given unisex names last year. This means in the classroom, while some children of both genders may share a name with your child, it isn’t likely to make them stick out.
Names are more versatile and diverse than ever before.
However, at the end of the day, it’s your child and you should choose a name you love. This is simply the data, what you do with it is up to you.
